SQUIER SERIES 24
Squier celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2002 by launching its new Series 24 instruments, so-called due to their 24 ¾” scale – the same scale as the Guild guitars they were meant to replace.
The M77 was the top-of the line of the solid bodies (others were the M50 and M70) Featuring a single cut-away body with a set-in mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard, a carved Maple top, and multi-lam Black/Ivory binding, this beauty was meant to replicate the famous and fabulous Guild Bluesbird.
Fender’s acquisition of Guild in the late 90’s made this an easy task. They just took all the plans and sent them to their plant in Korea and – Voila! – a Guild Bluesbird under the Squier M77 name – at a fraction of the cost.
It was too bad that Fender was too bottom-line oriented to give their guitar-playing public time to realize just what they had produced. As a result, they only made these for one year – 2002. That means that you can’t buy them anywhere – except when somebody like me realizes that this instrument deserves to be PLAYED, not just be hung on a wall gathering dust (in my smoke-free home studio).

I am mainly a keyboardist, so this guitar has not been played – unless you count the 30 minutes or so that I fooled around with it. (I have an HSS Strat that furnishes all the guitar I need.) So the frets and neck and body are like new with no dings, scratches, marks, or nicks anywhere. The finish on the back has a little problem, but – as you can see (or not) – it does not show up in the pictures. (And who is going to look at the back of your guitar while you are playing it anyway, right?)
Taking an already great instrument, I have had this M77 modified, taking it to unmatched heights of instrumentality, tone, and playability.
The modifications I have made and the prices just for the parts include:
· Real Seymour-Duncan pickups - an SH-1 at the neck and an SH-4 at the bridge - $145.90 for the pair
· A real Bigsby B70 (chrome) Vibrato Tailpiece - $130.00
· A roller bridge from Allparts.com (p/n GB-0545-010 - ABM 2400-C Chrome Roller Tunematic – $100.00)
· A real bone nut, professionally installed and slotted - $50.00
· Planet Waves Auto-Trim Locking Tuners - $60.00
These were selling for over $800.00 when they first came out.
I have over $1300.00 invested in this fine instrument (including the labor to have this all professionally done and set up). But due to the rarity of these, it is worth much more than that – and the value will only increase with time. The pictures do not do this beautifully crafted instrument justice. (Oh- and one of the pictures is just a corner of my home studio – just so you know I really have one.)
There is no case or gig bag. I will include the original bridge if you want it.
I am the original owner and am an older adult.
This is a NO RESERVE auction. Don’t let this one get away – they don’t show up that often and you’ll NEVER find one as good as this anywhere.
Please check my feedback and ratings and bid with the utmost confidence.
