Rare Hardshell Guitar Case Made by Ess & Ess Mfg. Co. “Quality
Cases” Brooklyn, N.Y.
These cases were used by Gibson, Martin, Guild and
others from 1952 thru the early ‘70’s. This
case is structurally solid and worn/threadbare in all the right places. It is original except for the replaced handle
and all latches work properly. Check out
the pictures for condition. The insignia on the inside of the case reads Ess
& Ess Mfg. Co. “Quality Cases” Brooklyn, N.Y.
It is five latch standard shape Ess & Ess for acoustic guitars
with approximate measurements of: Lower Bout 16 1/4" Upper Bout 12"
Center Bout 11" Length 43" Depth= Lower Case 4" Upper Lid
1" total of 5" Capacity. My
Guild D-50 dreadnaught fits into it perfectly
Here is some history about the cases made for Gibson between 1952 thru
The cases were supplied separately and cost extra to the guitar. Some cases
were for particular models such as the black faultless case with yellow plush
interior for Customs and the brown cases with brown or green felt interior for
acoustic guitars, and others such as the brown/pink Les Paul size ones were for
Standards, or Specials and Juniors if anyone was willing to pay the extra
price. Even back then, Gibson wasn't so good at paying their bills and would
shop around different case manufacturers if their account was put on hold at
one supplier or if they couldn't meet an order in time. Gibson cases were made
by Lifton, Geib, Stone, and Ess &Ess Music City Case Co. Brooklyn NY.
